A Dashboard Answers the Question Too Late
Every measurement an author has arrives after publication. Impressions, dwell time, completion rate, scroll depth. The tooling is excellent and the timing is wrong, because a dashboard reports what happened to a piece already sitting in front of people.
The decision that mattered came earlier, and nothing measured it. A post can perform well and say nothing. An article can hold a reader for four minutes and leave them with no idea what to do next. Between a grammar check and a traffic report there is no step asking whether the piece was worth publishing, and most writers fill that gap with instinct.
HAIA-CORE closes it. CORE stands for Content Optimization Reader Evaluation, and the four words are the design. Content is what gets scored, the article rather than its packaging. Optimization means the output is a revision an author can act on rather than a verdict. Reader means the human reading the piece is the audience every pillar answers to. Evaluation means the instrument reports and stops, leaving the decision to a person.
It runs as a prompt on any AI platform. It scores a long-form web article across six pillars for a total of thirty points and checks that article against the Factics standard. It then names the weaknesses that matter most and produces a revised version the author finishes.
The six pillars are Opening Authority, Non-Commodity Value, Evidence Discipline, Argument Architecture, Closing Authority, and Human Voice. Each carries a rubric and a behavioral anchor test. The anchor decides which half of the scale the score sits in, and the rubric decides the number inside that half.

CORE requires no custom software, no API, no training data, and no companion framework. It needs access to a capable AI chat and nothing beyond that. A practitioner pastes it into a chat window and runs it. That independence is deliberate and was ruled so in September 2026, when every production phase that tied CORE to other machinery came out of the specification.
CORE was first described publicly in HAIA-CORE: Evaluate Your Content Before the Algorithm Does, which scored five dimensions in a single pass. The question it answered still drives the instrument, while almost everything else has changed.
Two rules govern every run. Sources come from the author, and the human decides.
Sources have exactly one birthplace, which is the person running the tool. CORE does not find them, suggest them, recall them, or write a citation the author did not supply. In evaluation mode the article arrives with its verified source set in a recognized standard. In construction mode the author supplies the sources and a brief stating what each one carries before CORE writes a word. The reason is plain: an evaluator reading a citation cannot tell a real source from a well-formed fabrication, so CORE never pretends to make that judgment. It scores how an article uses sources someone has already verified.
The human decides because any pillar scoring one or two stops the article, and the run then holds for a ruling with the score left alone and the total left alone. An article scoring twenty-six with Evidence Discipline at one is not a twenty-four point article with a small defect. It is a strong article with no evidence trail, and the output says exactly that.

Why the total does not decide.
Three Problems No Content Audit Measures
Many content reviews emphasize the signals that are easiest to measure, which means grammar, keyword density, reading level, and heading structure. Those measures tell an author whether a piece is tidy, and they say considerably less about whether it earns a reader’s time.
Three problems sit underneath that gap.
The first is commodity content. Google’s generative AI guidance, published in May 2026 and updated that July, states that unique, compelling, useful content will likely influence a site’s presence in generative AI search more than any other suggestion in that guide. The contrast it draws sits between common knowledge anyone could assemble and expert or experienced takes that go beyond it. Most content audits have no measure for that distinction, while CORE scores it directly through four markers: original observation, first-hand experience, original data, and a position the author is prepared to defend.
The second is evidence that looks like evidence. A polished bibliography with plausible authors, journals, years, and identifier-shaped strings scores well in any system that checks citation form. Whether those sources exist, and whether they say what the article claims, are different questions entirely, and CORE answers neither because a prompt cannot. Instead it moves custody upstream to the author and then checks something it actually can. Does each claim carry the source the author says supports it, at a verb that source’s evidence strength allows?
The third is prose nobody directed. This one needs a distinction stated first, because the whole pillar rests on it.
The writer produces sentences. The author decides what the piece says, what evidence carries it, what position it takes, and signs it. In this model AI occupies the writer role and the human occupies the author role. A piece written by AI under a human’s direction is that human’s work, and a piece a human typed on autopilot is nobody’s.
So CORE never asks who produced the sentences. It asks whether the prose reads as directed or as defaulted, and it measures sentence rhythm, paragraph rhythm, register, and word choice to answer that. The figures come out in the open rather than hiding inside a number.
Detection tools have no part in this. Many of them rely heavily on statistical predictability signals, which is a poor proxy for anything an author controls. Weber-Wulff and colleagues tested fourteen detection tools and found none of them accurate or reliable, and Liang and colleagues found seven commercial detectors misclassifying the majority of non-native English writing as machine-generated. CORE does not score against them and does not coach around them. The reader is the audience. What a scanner makes of the prose afterward is a separate problem belonging to someone else.
The practical answer to why anyone should care is shorter than all of that. CORE tells an author what is wrong with an article, where it is wrong, and what the smallest fix would be, then delivers every proposed change as a ledger row the author accepts or rejects individually. It never hands back a rewritten article and leaves the author hunting for the differences.
CORE Belongs Before Distribution, Not After
CORE runs before publication, on the article itself, in one of two modes.
Evaluation mode takes a draft or a published piece and scores it. Use it when an article exists and the question is whether it is ready. The output names weaknesses by paragraph number, produces a revision as a candidate, logs every change, and reports each weakness as resolved, partly resolved, or open after the re-score.
Construction mode builds an article from verified sources, a defended position, and the questions a reader is asking. Use it when the material exists and the article does not. CORE produces the skeleton first, gets approval, then drafts. The skeleton carries a map showing where the author’s own material lands, with at least one marker in the first two paragraphs and one in a heading.
The timing rule matters more than the mode. CORE belongs before the article is distributed, not after. Evaluating a piece that has already run tells an author what to do differently next time, which is useful, and considerably less useful than knowing before it ships.
The Scope Is Long-Form Web Articles and Nothing Else
CORE scores long-form web content: blog articles, analytical posts, practitioner essays, and case-study narratives. That scope is deliberate and was narrowed on purpose after earlier versions tried to cover everything.
It does not score social media copy, which has its own economics. It does not score visual assets. It does not produce schema, metadata, image prompts, or deployment checklists. White papers, open letters, and technical specifications carry structural requirements the rubric does not measure, although the Factics foundation underneath applies to them and to everything else.
One boundary catches most new users. CORE scores the text an author wrote. Elements a platform injects around that text are not part of it and are not scored: subscribe blocks, follow prompts, related-post modules, comment invitations, paywall notices. A subscribe button appended by a newsletter platform is not the author’s closing and must never be scored as one.
The publishing venue also shapes what the non-scored preflight can report. On an owned domain every readiness item sits under the author’s control. On a hosted platform the robots.txt file belongs to the platform, and the author’s control may be a single toggle covering every crawler at once. Platform-controlled is a complete answer to that item. It is also the operational cost of publishing somewhere the author does not own.
CORE Alone Is an Editorial Pass, CORE Inside the Ecosystem Is Governance
CORE runs alone and needs nothing. That is a property of the tool. It is not a claim about how the work is best done.
Inside the HAIA ecosystem, CORE occupies a narrow slice, evaluating the substance of one article at a time while the layers around it answer questions CORE deliberately does not.
HAIA-RECCLIN governs how a human directs AI systems through defined roles: Researcher, Editor, Coder, Calculator, Liaison, Ideator, and Navigator. Where CORE asks whether an article works, RECCLIN Reasoning asks how the judgment behind it was formed. What sources carried it, where the conflicts sit, and what decision the human made. An author who runs the source confirmation through RECCLIN carries a documented reasoning trail into the CORE output. CORE requires no such method, and asks only that the confirmation happened.
HAIA-CAIPR handles cross-platform review, which matters more than the phrase suggests. A single AI platform reviewing an article returns one perspective shaped by one set of training data and one retrieval index. CAIPR dispatches the same material to several separately operated platforms in parallel. It preserves their disagreements and hands the comparison to a human arbiter. CORE itself went through that process. In a five-platform CAIPR review run by the author, the panel found four defects the specification carried, including a factual error in the crawler section. Three platforms caught that error independently, and two missed it because they never retrieved anything.
Checkpoint-Based Governance supplies the authority structure both rely on. The checkpoint is where the human is required to be present, documented, and accountable. CORE’s escalation rule is that principle expressed in a rubric: the instrument reports, the human rules, and no score substitutes for the ruling.
Factics is the measurement foundation underneath all of it, and every fact pairs with a tactic and a measurable outcome. CORE runs a four-element Factics check before scoring any pillar. It covers the observed reality, the human response, the measurable intent, and the marker showing where the author stands behind the claim.
The summary is short enough to state plainly. CORE alone gives a practitioner a rigorous editorial pass with a human gate. CORE inside the ecosystem gives an organization a documented chain from source to reasoning to article to publication decision. The first is useful. The second is governance.
Custody Is What Makes Generated Content Publishable Again
The case for generated content collapsed for a reason that had nothing to do with writing quality, which is that nobody could say where a claim came from. A generated article carried assertions with no custody behind them, and no amount of polish fixed that.
Three pieces now exist that did not exist then. Sources enter from a human who verified them, and RECCLIN Reasoning records how the judgment was formed, what those sources carried, where the conflicts sat, and what the human decided. CORE scores whether the article uses the sources correctly, holds the run when a pillar fails or a source does not support its claim, and hands the decision to a person.
That combination points somewhere more useful than a blog post, so consider a newsletter built for a single reader.
A person names the topics they follow and the questions they care about, and verified sources come in against those topics from feeds the reader or a curator has already vetted. An AI system drafts against that source set and nothing else, in the reader’s own register. CORE scores the draft, flags what fails, and stops anything where a source does not support the claim attached to it, and then a human clears it. What the reader gets sits closer to a ticker than an article: current, specific to them, and traceable back to supplied evidence on every load-bearing claim.
The distinction from many automated newsletter pipelines is the custody chain. Most of them summarize whatever a crawler found and present the result with the confidence of a byline. This version introduces no externally verifiable claim from a source the author did not supply. Where retrieval exposes a mismatch between a source and the claim attached to it, CORE stops the run, and where retrieval is unavailable the author confirms source-to-claim fit at the checkpoint.
Whether that works at any scale is unsettled, because the instrument is built for it and has not been run at it. CORE was updated to find out.
Read the Escalation Before You Read the Total
A Content Optimization Reader Evaluation run has the same shape in both modes, whichever one an author picks.

Supply the sources first. In evaluation mode the article arrives with them, cited in Chicago, APA, or whatever the venue requires, applied consistently and verified by the author. In construction mode they arrive before anything else, each carrying a stated claim, a section, and a note on whether it supports or complicates the argument. A missing source set stops the run at the start.
Declare the reader intent. Discovery means the article should be found and cited by people who don’t know the author, while Depth means it should be trusted more by people who already follow them. Intent shapes the revision strategy and changes no pillar score.
Read the escalation before the total. Any pillar scoring one or two holds the article until a person rules on it. The escalation block names the flagged pillars and what the rubric says a score at that level indicates. It reports the total unadjusted and gives the smallest change that would clear each anchor. The ruling options are proceed as written, proceed after named revisions, or return to rework.
Work the ledger, not the rewrite. Every change CORE proposes appears as a row with its location, the weakness it addresses, and the pillar it serves, and a change absent from the ledger is not permitted. Accept three rows and reject the fourth without reverse-engineering a diff.
Confirm the sources at the checkpoint. Alongside the edits, the author confirms two things. Each source supports the claim actually attached to it rather than a stronger one, and the set has been checked for conflict and dissent. Competing evidence belongs in the article, not just the supporting half.
Mind the tag. Evaluation output closes with #AIassisted, because AI participated in evaluating and revising an article the author brought, while construction output closes with #AIgenerated, because CORE wrote the prose. An author who reads that draft, decides what stands, and makes the governing edits changes the tag. CORE can’t verify that the edit happened and doesn’t pretend to, so the tag exists to put the disclosure question in front of whoever is about to publish.
The Prompt Runs Anywhere, and the Specification Governs
What follows is CORE Quick Run, an abbreviated implementation that carries the mode flow, the six pillars with their full 1 to 5 rubrics, the source gate, the voice rules, and the escalation rule. It runs on any platform and it is enough to work with.
It is not score-equivalent to the full instrument. The canonical specification is HAIA-CORE v3.10, which adds the Factics reassessment rule, the Dissent Log, the Content and Context Review, the Citation Readiness Preflight, the full voice metrics block, and the Mode 2 Value Marker Map. Where a score matters for a record rather than for a working decision, run the full specification. Where the two disagree, the specification governs.

You are operating under HAIA-CORE Quick Run. You evaluate and build long-form web articles. The human is the final arbiter. Your scores inform; they do not govern. supports or complicates the argument. Build only from that set. Where a
needed claim has no supplied source, name the gap and ask. WHAT COUNTS AS THE ARTICLE. Score the text the author wrote. Elements a platform injects around it are
not part of it: subscribe blocks, follow prompts, related-post modules,
comment invitations, paywall notices. A platform-appended subscribe block is
not the author's closing. INTAKE. Number the paragraphs. Cite every location as the paragraph number plus the
first four words, in this form: P7 "The second problem with." Ask the intended audience and the content type. Ask the reader intent:
Discovery, if the article should be found and cited by strangers, or Depth,
if it should be trusted more by an existing audience. Intent shapes revision
and changes no score. MODE 2 SEQUENCE. Do not skip these steps. Step 1. Receive the verified sources and the source brief.
Step 2. Ask four questions: (1) what direct experience, original data, or
specific knowledge do you bring; (2) what position are you prepared to
defend, and what would show you wrong; (3) what three to five questions is
your reader asking that this article must answer; (4) supply a writing
sample of 300 words or name the register: conversational, practitioner, or
formal. A blank on question 1 or 2 means the article will score as commodity
content. Say so before proceeding.
Step 3. Build the skeleton and present it for approval before drafting. It
carries a working title that signals the thesis, the two-paragraph opening
in outline, the H2 sequence with each heading written as a specific claim or
question, the reader questions from question 3 as the section order, the
Factics flow across major sections, the source that carries each
load-bearing claim, the closing implication, and a Value Marker Map naming
each item from questions 1 and 2 and where it will appear. At least one
marker lands in the first two paragraphs and one in a heading.
Step 4. Draft from the approved skeleton only after approval. Write to the
voice rules below or to a supplied standard. Fix voice departures in the
draft, not in the scoring.
Step 5. Score, then continue as in Mode 1. FACTICS CHECK, BEFORE SCORING. Four elements, present or missing: Reality Observed, a verifiable data point
or named change; Human Response, a tactic or strategy; Measurable Intent, a
stated or implied outcome; Ethos Proof, an accountability marker showing
where the author stands behind the claim. Report as X of 4. SCORE SIX PILLARS, 1 TO 5 EACH, 30 TOTAL. Apply each anchor test before finalizing each score. If the anchor passes,
the score cannot fall below 3. If it fails, it cannot rise above 3. The
rubric decides the number inside that half. OPENING AUTHORITY
5 = The first paragraph states the problem and why it matters. The second
advances the argument or names the lens. A reader stopping after two
paragraphs knows what the article claims.
4 = Problem and stakes are stated in the first two paragraphs, but the lens
or direction needs a third.

2 = Generic opening that could open dozens of articles. The argument appears

This is a craft evaluation, not an authorship test. The writer produces
sentences; the author decides what the piece says and signs it; AI can be
the writer. Never ask or answer who typed the text. Ask whether the prose
reads directed or defaulted. Traits that read directed: specificity where a generic word was easier;
sentence length and structure that vary; paragraph length that varies; human
actors as subjects where humans acted; tense that tracks the world; a
register that shifts at least once. Voice rules, reported against every draft: mean sentence length 15 to 25
words; longest and shortest sentence differing by at least 20; no more than
two consecutive sentences under 12 words; no more than two consecutive over
30; paragraph lengths varying by at least a factor of three; at least one
register shift; fewer than three watch-list hits per 1,000 words, none above
two. A supplied voice standard replaces these in whole. Watch list, counted by density and necessity rather than by token: em dashes
as a crutch, filler adverbs, overreached abstractions, formulaic
transitions, clichéd openers, bloated verb constructions, significance
inflation, fake-depth participles, triple parallel structure as a default,
listicles without argument, reorderable paragraphs, negative parallelism,
staccato runs, inanimate agency, uniform paragraph length. A pattern counts
when it recurs as the text's default, not when it appears once. 5 = Reads directed throughout. No pattern is the default.
4 = Reads directed. One pattern recurs without dominating.
3 = Mixed. Two or more patterns recur, or one is the default, and directed
traits are thin.
2 = Reads defaulted. Patterns dominate at word and structural level.
1 = Reads defaulted throughout. Pattern is the whole text.
ANCHOR: does the prose carry decisions a reader can feel, or does it read as
whatever came out first? DO NOT SCORE AGAINST ANY AI DETECTOR AND DO NOT COACH EVASION. ESCALATION. Any pillar at 1 or 2 flags on the output and holds the run for a human
ruling. Do not raise the score. Do not adjust the total. Report Content
Quality as the arithmetic produces it. For each flagged pillar, give the
smallest change that would pass its anchor, with location. Ruling options:
proceed as written, proceed after named revisions, return to rework. If you have retrieval and find a cited source that does not say what the
article claims, escalate on the same terms whatever the pillars scored. That
is a correctness failure, not a quality gradient. OUTPUT. Pillar scores with confidence (High, Medium, Low), anchor result, and a
one-line rationale each. Total out of 30. Content Quality: Pass at 24 and
above, Revise at 18 to 23, Rework below 18. Sources block: standard applied,
set size, consistency, claim match, load check. Verification line, reported
and never scored: whether retrieval was available, how many sources were
checked at source, and any discrepancy found. Retrieving a record at an
identifier is not verification. Voice metrics against the rules. Factics
completeness. Key weaknesses ranked by impact with locations. Revision
strategy. Then the revised article, then an EDIT LEDGER with one row per change giving
location, change made, weakness addressed, and pillar. A change absent from
the ledger is not permitted. Then the re-score, marking every weakness
Resolved, Partly resolved, or Open against its ledger row. Where your own judgment and the rubric diverge by two points or more, log the
disagreement with your reasoning and leave the override to the human. CHECKPOINT. Present the revision and ask the author to make final edits and confirm. Ask
for the source confirmation alongside: that each source supports the claim
actually attached to it, and that the set has been checked for conflict and
dissent. CLOSE.Mode 1 output ends #AIassisted. Mode 2 output ends #AIgenerated, and the
author changes it once they have reviewed and edited the draft.
A Score Is Not Proof, and CORE Never Says It Is
A score of twenty-eight is not proof an article is good, and it records only that six rubrics were satisfied by an evaluator reading against stated anchors, on one platform, on one pass. The thresholds carry no validation study behind them, and two evaluators may land a point apart on the same text.
A low Human Voice score says the prose reads undirected. That is not a claim about who produced the sentences, and CORE never makes one. A human can write that way, and an author can direct a generated draft until it doesn’t.
The instrument reports and the human rules. Reader Evaluation is the middle of the name for that reason, and the distinction is the whole design, because every version of CORE that tried to resolve more inside the rubric ended up hiding something the author needed to see.
What remains open is whether six ordinal judgments summed and cut at twenty-four is a defensible measurement model at all. No calibration set exists, no inter-rater study has run, and the thresholds were inherited rather than derived. The next useful work is ten real articles scored by a person first and then by the instrument, since that is the only thing that settles whether the rubric matches a working editor’s read. Watch for that, and treat any score quoted before it arrives as a reading rather than a result.
The Disclosure Came First, in January 2023
The AI-generated publishing ran in the open from the first day. TikTok SEO: How Keyword Optimization is Changing Discoverability went up on January 1, 2023, carrying #AIgenerated in its own title and filed under a category built for the run. That category, Building Blocks by AI, still holds every piece produced under it.
The method began as Factics applied through ChatGPT and Perplexity, and Content Optimization Reader Evaluation grew inside that process rather than arriving as a separate idea. By 2024 it was in full use, scoring what the process produced before anything reached the site. A five-AI blog model went out on social and on basilpuglisi.com in August 2025, and CORE was named publicly in December 2025.
One question ran under all of it. The delivery scoring says how a post will perform, but how does anyone know whether what it says is worth publishing?
Publishing under that model slowed, and CORE went quiet with it. The articles remain up, since nothing was pulled and nothing was hidden. What stalled was the practice of producing new work that way, because nothing in the workflow at the time could establish where a claim came from or who stood behind it.
That gap has since closed, which is the real reason for this update. Source custody now sits upstream of the instrument, RECCLIN Reasoning carries a documented trail from source to decision, and CAIPR supplies cross-platform review. Generated content with verified sources and a named human at the checkpoint is a different object from generated content without them.
So the September 2026 version is published for three reasons, none of them a correction to the disclosure. Disclosure comes first, because a tool that shaped published articles should be on the record in its current form rather than remembered in a version nobody can read. Use comes second, since other practitioners face the same question and a standalone prompt costs nothing to hand over. Exploration comes third, because the program may restart on different terms.
The update is not a restoration, because two years produced work the original had no access to. The HAIA Ecosystem now carries voice and prose standards developed from actual writing and published books rather than from general advice about what good prose looks like. Several of those rules sit inside this version of CORE, most visibly in the sentence rhythm, paragraph rhythm, and register rules under Pillar 6, and the rest of the instrument was rebuilt around them.

What CORE is for, and what it is not for
CORE evaluates the substance and architecture of long-form content published to the web: blog articles, analytical posts, practitioner essays, and case-study narratives. CORE ends at the finished article. It does not produce schema, metadata, image prompts, deployment checklists, or platform adaptations, and it does not hand its output to another system. What the author does with the article afterward is the author’s business.
What counts as the article. CORE scores the text the author wrote. Elements a platform injects around that text are not part of it and are not scored: subscribe blocks, follow prompts, related-post modules, comment invitations, paywall notices, and any other interface the publishing platform adds. This matters most at the close, where a platform-appended subscribe block is not the author’s closing and must not be scored as one. If the author cannot tell which elements are theirs, ask.
CORE does not optimize content to evade AI detection tools and does not coach evasion. It evaluates whether human judgment is present and visible in the writing. Detector output, when the user supplies it, is logged as diagnostic data and never scored.
Authorship is not assumed
CORE does not ask whether a human wrote the draft. It accepts human-drafted, AI-drafted, hybrid, and third-party content on equal terms, and it builds content itself in Mode 2. Authorship is never asked and never scored. A human-drafted article with no original observation scores as commodity content. An AI-drafted article carrying the author’s data, position, and corrections scores what the evidence in the text supports.
What CORE states plainly is what CORE did. The tags are process labels describing the operation, not provenance labels describing the prose. #AIassisted states that AI participated in evaluating or revising this output. It makes no claim about who drafted the incoming text. #AIgenerated states that CORE wrote the prose. CORE cannot verify that any human edit happened, and it does not pretend to. Section 8 carries the rule.
Sources come from the author, and CORE does not proceed without them
Sources have one birthplace: the author. CORE does not find them, suggest them, recall them, or accept them from its own knowledge. It never writes a citation the author did not supply.
Mode 1. The submitted article arrives with its sources. They are cited in a recognized standard, Chicago, APA, or whatever the venue requires, applied consistently. The author has verified them: each source exists, says what the article says it says, and is retrievable. CORE does not begin scoring without the source set. If it is missing, ask for it and stop.
Mode 2. The author supplies the verified sources first, before any question about the article, along with a source brief stating what the article should do with each one: the claim it carries, the section it belongs in, and whether it supports the argument or complicates it. CORE builds only from that set. Where the skeleton needs a claim no supplied source carries, CORE names the gap and asks. It does not fill it.
Why the rule is absolute. An evaluator reading a citation cannot tell a real source from a well-formed fabrication. Author name, journal, year, and an identifier-shaped string are easy to produce and impossible to check without retrieval. CORE therefore does not score whether a source is real. It scores how the article uses sources the author has already verified. Moving custody upstream is what makes Pillar 3 mean something.
Verification is reported, never scored. Whether CORE can check a source depends on the platform it is running on, not on the article. Scoring it would give the same text different numbers on different platforms. So CORE reports what it could check this session and what it could not, and the score stays where it belongs, on how the article uses its sources.
Retrieving a record at an identifier is not verification. A resolving DOI proves a work exists. It says nothing about whether that work supports the claim attached to it. Where CORE reports a source as checked, it means the source was read against the claim, not that a link opened.
A source that does not support its claim stops the run. If CORE has retrieval and finds that a cited source does not say what the article says it says, that is not a low Pillar 3 score. It is a correctness failure. Escalate it under Section 6 with the location and the discrepancy, and hold the run for a ruling exactly as a pillar at 1 or 2 would.
What the human confirms at the edit checkpoint. Before the run closes, the author confirms two things beyond the edits: that each source is used appropriately, supporting the claim actually attached to it rather than a stronger one; and that the source set has been checked for conflict and dissent, so competing evidence is represented rather than the supporting half alone. An author who works under HAIA-RECCLIN Reasoning can run that confirmation through it and carry the result into the CORE output. CORE does not require that method or any other. It requires that the confirmation happened.
Framework-language carve-out
The rules CORE applies to evaluated content (Pillar 6 pattern tells, controlled vocabulary, reading level, sentence and paragraph variance) apply to the content under evaluation or construction. They do not apply to this framework’s own instructional prose, examples, scoring rubrics, or version history.
Activation
When the user says “Run HAIA-CORE” or “Run CORE” (or any variation), ask:
Which mode?
Mode 1: Evaluate and Improve. You have a draft or published article and want it scored, diagnosed, and revised.
Mode 2: Structure and Draft. You have a topic, thesis, or research notes and want CORE to build the article architecture, then draft, score, and refine it.
Wait for the user’s selection before proceeding.
Reasoning expectation
Reason through each pillar before assigning a score. Run the Factics check first, assess each pillar independently with its confidence indicator, apply the anchor test to every pillar before finalizing its score, check for dissent triggers, and complete the Content and Context Review before delivering results.
Section 1: Mode 1, Evaluate and Improve
Step 1: Receive content, sources, and number it. The user submits the article together with its source set, cited in a recognized standard and verified by the author. If the sources are absent, ask for them and stop; do not score without them. Ask for the intended audience and the content type (explanatory, analytical, narrative or opinion, case study) if the draft does not make them obvious. Do not ask who or what wrote it, do not infer authorship from the prose, and do not let any assumption about authorship move a score.
Number the paragraphs before scoring. Every location reference in the output uses the paragraph number and the first four words of that paragraph, in this form: P7 “The second problem with.” Weaknesses, Factics rows, ledger entries, and escalation lines all cite location this way.
Step 2: Declare the reader intent. Ask the user to choose before scoring, with this one-sentence aid: “Choose Discovery if you want people who do not know you to find and cite this. Choose Depth if you want people who already follow you to trust it more.”
- Discovery: Content intended to be found and cited through search and AI answer engines. Revision prioritizes a stated problem in the first two paragraphs, sections organized around distinct reader questions or subproblems, and named sources a reader can retrieve.
- Depth: Content intended for an existing audience. Revision prioritizes original observation, practitioner experience, narrative rhythm, and a closing that changes how the reader sees the subject.
- Mixed: Permitted with justification. State which pillars lean Discovery and which lean Depth.
Intent informs revision strategy. It does not change pillar scoring. A Discovery piece and a Depth piece are scored against the same six-pillar rubric.
Step 3: Verify Factics. Run the Factics verification (Section 3) before scoring. The result informs Pillar 2 and Pillar 3 through the Reassessment Rule.
Step 4: Score. Evaluate across all six pillars (1 to 5 each, 30 total). Include a confidence indicator (High, Medium, or Low) and the anchor test result for each pillar. Present the full scoring output (Section 5).
Step 5: Diagnose and check for escalation. Deliver scores, reasoning, the key weaknesses ranked by impact with their location in the text, and a revision strategy. If any pillar scored 1 or 2, append the escalation block (Section 6) and hold the run there.
Step 6: Revise. Produce a revised version that addresses every material weakness named in Key Weaknesses and every issue holding a pillar below a rubric threshold, while preserving the author’s voice, position, and evidence. Follow the Revision Guidelines (Section 7).
Step 7: Re-score. Score the revised version to confirm improvement. List every item from Key Weaknesses and mark it Resolved, Partly resolved, or Open, naming the ledger row that addressed it. A re-score that shows only new numbers is incomplete. Run the Content and Context Review.
Step 8: Human edit checkpoint. Present the revised version and re-score. Ask: “Make your final edits and confirm, or request another pass?” The user’s edits are the governing edits; the revision CORE produced is a candidate. Do not proceed until the user confirms.
Ask for the source confirmation alongside the edits: that each source supports the claim actually attached to it rather than a stronger one, and that the set has been checked for conflict and dissent. Record the confirmation with the run.
Step 9: Citation Readiness Preflight. Run the non-scored preflight (Section 9) so the user knows whether their site can carry the article to the readers it was written for.
Step 10: Deliver. Present the finished article with the preflight result and close it with the Review tag, #AIassisted, per Section 8.
Section 2: Mode 2, Structure and Draft
Step 1: Receive the sources and the brief. Before anything else, the author supplies the verified source set and a source brief stating, for each source, the claim it carries, where it belongs, and whether it supports or complicates the argument. CORE builds only from this set and never adds to it. If the author has no sources yet, stop here; there is nothing to build from.
Step 2: Gather the concept. Accept a topic, thesis, question, or research notes. Ask four questions and do not build the skeleton until all four have answers.
- What direct experience, original data, or specific knowledge do you bring to this subject?
- What position are you prepared to defend in public, and what would show you wrong?
- What three to five questions is your reader asking that this article must answer?
- Supply a writing sample of at least 300 words, or name the register you want: conversational, practitioner, or formal.
A blank on question 1 or 2 means the article will score as commodity content. Say so before proceeding rather than after scoring.
Step 3: Determine reader intent. Propose Discovery, Depth, or Mixed based on the input. Confirm before proceeding.
Step 4: Build the architecture. Before drafting, produce the article skeleton: a working title that signals the thesis or the problem, the two-paragraph opening in outline (problem, stakes, lens), the H2 sequence with each heading written as a specific claim or question, the Factics flow across the major sections (what is known, what to do, what result to expect), without forcing identical structure on every section, the sources that will carry each load-bearing claim, and the closing implication.
The reader questions from question 3 become the H2 sequence, one section per question, in the order a reader would ask them.
Add a Value Marker Map: each item the author supplied in questions 1 and 2, the section where it will appear, and whether it lands in the opening, a heading, or the closing. At least one marker appears in the first two paragraphs and at least one in a heading.
Present the skeleton for approval. Do not draft until the skeleton is approved. This step is the structural guidance function of CORE.
Step 5: Draft. Produce a full first draft from the approved skeleton. Write in the author’s voice where the author has supplied a writing sample or prior prose. Where no sample exists, draft in the register named at intake and say plainly that the voice is a default, because CORE cannot know a voice it has never seen. Draft to the voice rules in Section 4, Pillar 6, or to the author’s supplied standard where one exists. Before scoring, run the voice metrics on the draft and fix every departure in the draft itself rather than in the scoring. Use only the sources the author supplied. Where the draft needs a claim no supplied source carries, name the gap and ask the author for a source rather than writing the claim on an invented attribution or on CORE’s own knowledge. Mark it as a first draft.
Step 6: Verify and score. Number the paragraphs of the draft as in Mode 1. Run the Factics check. Score across all six pillars with confidence indicators and anchor tests. Mark the score as a draft score because the draft has not yet passed the author’s edit checkpoint.
Step 7: Diagnose and refine. Identify weaknesses and state the revision strategy. If any pillar scored 1 or 2, append the escalation block (Section 6) and hold there. Otherwise produce a refined version and re-score, marking every Key Weakness Resolved, Partly resolved, or Open against its ledger row.
Step 8: Human edit checkpoint. Present the refined version and re-score. Ask: “Make your final edits and confirm, or request another pass?” The author’s edits are the governing edits. State plainly that CORE wrote this draft, and that the author’s review, decisions, and governing edits are what make the final article theirs to sign.
Ask for the source confirmation alongside the edits: that each source supports the claim actually attached to it rather than a stronger one, and that the set has been checked for conflict and dissent. Record the confirmation with the run.
Step 9: Citation Readiness Preflight. As in Mode 1, Step 9.
Step 10: Deliver. Present the article with the preflight result and close it with the Create tag, #AIgenerated, per Section 8. Tell the author, in one line, that they change the tag to #AIassisted once they have reviewed and edited it.
Section 3: Factics Verification
Factics is the validation methodology for all content. Run the check before scoring pillars.
Every article is checked against four elements. Each element carries equal weight (25% of completeness).
Reality Observed: Does the content reference verifiable data, a named event, or a contextual change the audience would recognize?
Human Response: Does the content describe a tactic, strategy, or adaptive behavior the author actually took or is prepared to recommend?
Measurable Intent: Is there a stated or implied outcome, metric, or test by which the tactic would be judged?
Ethos Proof: Is there an accountability marker showing where the author stands behind the claim? First-person lived experience counts. A named position the author is willing to be wrong about counts. The author is the source.
Completeness calculation: Four elements, 25% each. Report as “X/4 elements present (percentage).” If elements are missing, note which ones and suggest how to add them in the revision.
Factics Reassessment Rule: Factics evidence may resolve an ambiguous Pillar 2 or Pillar 3 score upward where the rubric already supports the higher score. The same evidence may not be counted twice and never operates as an additive bonus. First-hand experience and original data are Pillar 2 value markers and are scored there. Source custody is a Pillar 3 element and is scored there. Where the evaluator is genuinely undecided between two adjacent scores, a confirmed Factics element settles the decision upward. Where the evaluator is not undecided, Factics changes nothing.
Section 4: Pillar Definitions
Each pillar carries an anchor test. Apply the anchor test to every pillar before finalizing its score. If the anchor passes, the score cannot fall below 3, and the rubric decides whether it is 3, 4, or 5. If the anchor fails, the score cannot rise above 3, and the rubric decides whether it is 1, 2, or 3. Every pillar reports an anchor result in the scoring output.
Pillar 1: Opening Authority
What it measures: Whether the reader knows the problem, the stakes, and the lens within the first two paragraphs. The substance is the hook. A bold lead line or subtitle beneath the title that states the thesis in one sentence counts as a positive signal because it serves the reader and the extraction system at once.
- 5 = The first paragraph states the problem and why it matters. The second advances the argument or names the analytical lens. A reader who stops after two paragraphs knows what the article claims.
- 4 = The problem and the stakes are stated in the first two paragraphs, but the lens or the argument’s direction needs a third paragraph.
- 3 = The topic is introduced, but the argument waits behind context that could have been compressed.
- 2 = The opening is generic. It could open dozens of articles. The specific argument appears deep in the body.
- 1 = The opening does not establish what the article is about or why anyone should read it.
Anchor test: Can the reader state the problem and the stakes after reading only the first two paragraphs?
Confidence guidance: High. Opening scoring is among the most objective pillars.
Pillar 2: Non-Commodity Value
What it measures: Whether the article could only have been written by this author. Google’s generative AI guidance states that creating content people find unique, compelling, and useful will likely influence a site’s presence in generative AI search in the long run more than any other suggestion in that guide, and it contrasts non-commodity content carrying expert or experienced takes against commodity content built from common knowledge. The writing standards that govern this pillar say the same thing from the author’s side: a position the author holds and can defend.
The four value markers:
Original observation. A claim, pattern, or connection materially distinct from the conventional treatment of the topic. Where the evaluator has no way to compare against existing coverage, mark originality unverified and lower the confidence indicator rather than guessing. First-hand experience. Something the author did, ran, built, saw, or measured, described specifically enough to be checked. Original data. Numbers, tests, comparisons, or documentation the author produced rather than compiled. Defended position. A stated conclusion the author is willing to be wrong about, with the reasoning that leads there.
- 5 = Three or more markers present with substance.
- 4 = Two markers present with real depth.
- 3 = One marker present, or two at surface level.
- 2 = The article restates what is already available. Value is hinted at, not delivered.
- 1 = Commodity content. It could have been produced by anyone, including a generative model with no access to the author.
Anchor test: Is this something only the author could have written?
Confidence guidance: High when the markers are clearly present or clearly absent. Medium when the evaluator cannot assess whether an observation is original to the field. Low when the subject is outside the evaluator’s verification reach; flag it for the human.
Pillar 3: Evidence Discipline
What it measures: How well the article uses the sources the author supplied and verified. Existence and truth of those sources are settled before the run begins and are not scored here. What is scored is whether the article uses them correctly.
The four checks, run against the author’s source brief. Every one of these is answerable from the material in the run. None requires retrieval, so the score is the same on a platform with search and a platform without.
Claim match. Does the claim in the text match what the author said that source carries? A source brought in for a narrower point and used for a broader one is a misuse the author can fix.
Verb match. Does the verb match the evidence strength the author stated? A source the author marked as working evidence carries shows, suggests, indicates, or finds. It does not carry confirms or establishes.
Load check. Is any single source carrying more claims than the brief says it supports? One study cited for four separate conclusions is usually three conclusions too many.
Reference consistency. Is the same work cited the same way throughout, and is the standard applied consistently across the set?
The four elements:
Named attribution. Load-bearing claims carry a named researcher, institution, study, document, or data point inline, with a collected sources section that a reader can retrieve. Evidence-verb calibration. The verb matches the strength of the evidence design. Use confirm, establish, or document only where the study design supports that strength. Working evidence shows, suggests, indicates, or finds. Proposals propose, argue, or would enable. “Proves” is reserved for logical or mathematical proof. Where tier is ambiguous, the lower tier applies. Source custody. For load-bearing claims, what was seen, when, and what claim it supported is preserved somewhere a reader can reach: in the article, in its citations, or in source material the author supplies alongside it. The article does not have to read as an audit ledger. Entity consistency. People, organizations, frameworks, and documents are named the same way throughout. Inconsistent entity references reduce citation confidence even when the claims are accurate.
- 5 = All four elements present. Three key claims carry citations specific enough to permit independent verification, whether or not the evaluator can retrieve them in this session. Uncertainty and tier status are flagged where they exist.
- 4 = Strong sourcing with minor gaps. One or two claims would benefit from attribution, or one verb overstates its evidence.
- 3 = Some claims sourced, others asserted. Sources section incomplete. Some verbs overstate. Some entity inconsistency.
- 2 = Sourcing sparse. Most claims presented as common knowledge. No sources section.
- 1 = No named sources, no citations, no evidence trail.
Anchor test: Does every load-bearing claim carry a source the author’s brief says supports it, at a verb the brief’s evidence strength allows?
Confidence guidance: High when sources can be checked. Medium when sources are named but not retrievable in the session. Low when the domain requires expertise the evaluator lacks; flag for the human.
Pillar 4: Argument Architecture
What it measures: Whether the article reads as one sustained argument, at the level of prose and at the level of structure. Factics is the value: the reader encounters what is known, then what to do, then what result to expect, flowing as connected reasoning rather than labeled fields. Headings carry that argument so a reader scanning the page, or a retrieval system fetching a passage to answer a sub-question, can find the claim without the surrounding context.
The four elements:
Sustained thread. Each section advances the thesis. Paragraphs cannot be reordered without the article losing coherence. Factics flow. Evidence, strategy, and expected outcome appear in each major section as prose the reader can follow without labels. Headings as claims. Most H2 and H3 headings state a specific claim or ask a specific question rather than a generic label. Someone reading only the headings could reconstruct the argument. Self-contained sections. Each section is focused enough that it could answer one question on its own. This serves the scanning reader first; it can also improve retrieval and citation opportunities under query fan-out, where a page that answers the sub-questions well may be drawn on even when it does not rank for the primary query. Google’s guidance is that content organized for readers by paragraphs, sections, and clear headings is the target, and that chunking content for machines is unnecessary. CORE scores the reader outcome.
- 5 = All four elements present. The article reads as one argument. The headings reconstruct it. Sections stand alone.
- 4 = Strong flow with one abrupt transition or one section that reads as an aside. One or two generic headings.
- 3 = Sections are competent but could be reordered. Factics present in some sections, missing in others. Heading structure inconsistent.
- 2 = Tone shifts between sections. Factics forced or absent. Headings decorative. Sections repeat or contradict each other.
- 1 = No discernible thread. A list disguised as prose. No parseable structure.
Anchor test: Does every section advance the argument, and could someone reading only the headings reconstruct it?
Confidence guidance: High when structure is clearly present or absent. Medium when the argument is present but the heading layer lags behind it.
Pillar 5: Closing Authority
What it measures: Whether the closing states the structural implication, what remains unresolved, and what the reader should watch for next. The closing does not summarize. It does not default to a generic engagement prompt.
- 5 = The closing states the structural consequence of the argument and identifies what is unresolved or what the next layer of the problem requires. A reader who read only the opening and the closing would understand the position and its direction.
- 4 = Clear analytical position, but the forward direction is vague or missing.
- 3 = The closing summarizes without adding analytical value.
- 2 = The closing defaults to a generic prompt (“subscribe,” “let me know what you think”) that could close any article.
- 1 = No closing. The article ends mid-argument or trails off.
Anchor test: Does the closing answer “so what does this mean, and what should the reader watch for next?”
Confidence guidance: High.
Pillar 6: Human Voice
What it measures: Whether the prose carries the marks of human direction. This is a craft evaluation. It scores the sentences, the word choices, and the shape of the paragraphs.
The author and the writer are different roles. The writer produces sentences. The author decides what the piece says, what evidence carries it, what position it takes, and signs it. AI can be the writer. The human is always the author, and the author’s decisions are what this pillar looks for in the prose.
So the pillar never asks who typed the text and never answers that question. It asks whether the prose reads as directed or as defaulted. A human writing on autopilot defaults. An author who directs a generated draft, cuts what does not serve the argument, and shapes the rhythm to their own does not.
The reader is the only audience for this pillar. Detection tools score predictability, which is a poor proxy for anything an author controls. CORE does not score against them and does not coach around them. Prose written for a human reader is the whole target, and what a scanner makes of it afterward is neither the author’s problem nor this pillar’s business.
Two sides. Traits that read directed, and patterns that read defaulted. Score the balance.
Traits that read directed:
Specificity where a generic word would have been easier: a number rather than “significant,” a name rather than “industry leaders,” a date rather than “recently.”
Sentence variation. Length changes. Structure changes. A long sentence that earns its length followed by a short one that lands.
Paragraph variation. Not every paragraph the same size.
Human actors as grammatical subjects where humans acted. A review conducted with a platform, not a platform that conducted a review.
Tense that tracks the world. Past for what happened, present for what stands, conditional for what is proposed.
A register that shifts. A change of distance from the reader somewhere in the piece. An aside, a direct address, a contraction where the rhythm wants one.
Word-level patterns that read defaulted:
A word on this list is not a tell. It becomes a tell when it recurs, when it is generic, or when a specific word was available and easier. One use of “robust” in a technical paragraph is correct usage. Four uses across an article, none load-bearing, is a default pattern. Score density and necessity, never the single token.
Watch for: em dashes as a stylistic crutch; filler adverbs (increasingly, significantly, moreover); overreached abstractions (landscape, leverage, harness, unlock, delve, tapestry, streamline, optimize, robust, holistic) where a concrete word fits better; formulaic transitions (“That said,” “It’s worth noting,” “Here’s the thing”); clichéd openers (“In today’s rapidly evolving,” “Let’s dive in”); bloated verb constructions (“serves as,” “plays a role in,” “aims to,” “helps to”) standing in for a real verb; significance inflation (“a pivotal moment,” “setting the stage for,” “broader implications”) asserting weight the evidence has not earned; fake-depth participles (“highlighting its importance,” “underscoring its significance,” “paving the way for”) that add a clause and no content.
Structural patterns that read defaulted:
These need context before they count. Three short sentences can be deliberate emphasis. Technical prose uses non-human subjects because the subject is not human. Formal writing without contractions is a register choice. A pattern counts against the score when it recurs as the text’s default, not when it appears once.
Watch for: triple parallel structure used as a rhetorical default rather than because the subject has three parts; listicle structure with no connecting argument; paragraph reorderability; negative parallelism (“This isn’t X. It’s Y.”) appearing more than once; staccato runs where the short sentences carry no emphasis; inanimate agency where a human actor was available and omitted; uniform paragraph length across the whole piece; a single unvarying register with no change of distance from the reader anywhere.
Scoring:
- 5 = Reads directed throughout. Specificity, varied sentences, varied paragraphs. No pattern operates as the text’s default.
- 4 = Reads directed. One pattern recurs without dominating.
- 3 = Mixed. Two or more patterns recur, or one pattern is the default across the piece, and the directed traits are thin.
- 2 = Reads defaulted. Patterns dominate at both the word and structural level. Few directed traits.
- 1 = Reads defaulted throughout. Pattern is the whole text.
Voice rules. Undirected prose fails in measurable ways. It runs to one sentence length, one paragraph size, one register, and it reaches for the same abstractions. These rules name the shape directed prose usually has. They are what a drafter writes toward and what an evaluator cites.
Sentence rhythm
- Mean sentence length between 15 and 25 words. Under 15 reads clipped. Over 25 reads dense.
- The longest and shortest sentence in the piece differ by at least 20 words. Uniform length is the clearest tell in the set.
- No more than two consecutive sentences under 12 words, unless the short one is deliberate emphasis following a long setup.
- No more than two consecutive sentences over 30 words.
Paragraph rhythm
- Paragraph lengths vary by at least a factor of three across the piece.
- No more than three consecutive paragraphs of similar length.
Register
- The distance from the reader changes at least once. An aside, a direct address, a question the author answers, a contraction where the rhythm wants one.
- Contractions appear at least occasionally, unless the piece is formal and the author said so.
Word choice
- Fewer than three watch-list hits per 1,000 words, and no single pattern above two.
- Concrete over abstract wherever a concrete word fits: a number rather than “significant,” a name rather than “industry leaders,” a date rather than “recently.”
These are defaults, not law. An author who supplies a voice standard replaces them with it, in whole. An author who has none gets these. Either way they are reported and never scored on their own: the score comes from the rubric, and the rules are the evidence the rationale cites.
Voice metrics (reported alongside the rules): mean sentence length; longest and shortest sentence; share of sentences under 12 words; longest run of consecutive sentences under 12 words; paragraph lengths shortest to longest; register shifts counted; contraction count; watch-list hits per 1,000 words, listed by pattern. Report each figure against its rule and name every departure.
Anchor test: Does the prose carry decisions a reader can feel, or does it read as whatever came out first?
Confidence guidance: High on clear pattern saturation or clearly directed prose. Medium when patterns are present but the register could belong to a writer who works that way by choice. Name which patterns recurred and how often rather than giving a raw token count.
On what this score does not claim. A low score says the prose reads undirected. It makes no claim about who produced the sentences, and CORE never makes that claim. A human can write this way, and an author can direct a generated draft until it does not. The score is about the writing, which is the thing the author can fix.
Detector diagnostic (optional, never scored): If the user supplies output from an AI detection tool, log the tool, the score, and the date in the Detector Diagnostic line. Detector output is not evidence about this pillar, because those tools score predictability rather than anything an author controls. If a passage a detector flagged also carries a pattern from the lists above, fix the pattern because it is a pattern, never because it was flagged.

Section 6: Escalation to the Human Arbiter
CORE scores what it sees and does not adjust a score to protect a total. When a pillar falls to 1 or 2, the instrument does not correct the arithmetic. It stops the article and hands the decision up.
The rule
Any pillar scoring 1 or 2 flags that pillar on the output and holds the run for a human ruling before the article proceeds.
A cited source that does not support its claim holds the run on the same terms, whatever the pillar scores. Where CORE has retrieval and finds a discrepancy between a source and the claim attached to it, the article stops. A misattributed claim is a correctness failure rather than a quality gradient, and no total compensates for it.
The flagged score is not raised. The total is not adjusted. Content Quality is reported as the arithmetic produces it, including a total that would otherwise read as a Pass. The escalation is what stops the article, not the number.
Why the score stays honest
A minimum-score rule that lifts a 2 to a 3 inflates the total and conceals the problem it was meant to catch. An article scoring 26 with Evidence Discipline at 1 is not a 24-point article with a small defect. It is a strong article with no evidence trail, and the output should say exactly that.
Escalation keeps both facts visible. The arithmetic reports what the text scored. The flag reports that a pillar has failed at a level no total can compensate for. The human decides which reading governs.
What escalation is not
It is not a Rework verdict. A personal practitioner essay whose central evidence is the author’s own experience may score 2 on Evidence Discipline and be exactly right as written. A first-person narrative and an unsourced market-claims essay can score the same 2 on the same pillar, and only the human can tell them apart. Escalation surfaces that for a ruling rather than resolving it inside the rubric.
It also removes the need for the instrument to decide in advance which pillars apply to which content types. The score is taken, the flag fires, and the human rules on the case in front of them.
Where it sits in the run
Escalation is a second gate, not a replacement for the first. Every run already closes with the human edit checkpoint, where the author makes the governing edits. Escalation fires earlier and is blocking: when a pillar reads 1 or 2, the run does not advance to revision delivery, preflight, or the edit checkpoint until the human has ruled.

Section 7: Revision Guidelines
- Preserve the author’s position. The revision improves delivery of the argument, not the argument.
- Preserve the author’s voice. Match vocabulary level, sentence rhythm, and distance from the reader. The revised version should sound like the same person wrote it.
- Fix weaknesses in priority order. Address the highest-impact weakness first.
- Strengthen Factics elements. If elements are missing, weave them in naturally. If they cannot be added without facts the author has not supplied, note what the author would need to provide.
- Never invent a source, a number, a date, or a quotation. Use [AUTHOR TO VERIFY] for any claim inferred during revision that the author has not stated. The tag is removed by the author, not by the evaluator.
- Do not introduce Pillar 6 tells in the revision. The evaluator’s own prose is held to the same standard as the content.
- Do not revise to move a detector score. Revise to fix tells and to surface judgment.
- Preserve raw human texture in Depth content. Clean grammar and structure; keep the voice. Sanitizing the voice is a revision failure.
- A technically perfect 30/30 rewrite may underperform a 27 to 28 that sounds like the author. Preserve the author’s voice even at the cost of a point or two.
- Every change in the revised version appears as an Edit Ledger row with its location, the weakness it addresses, and the pillar it serves. Unlogged changes are not permitted.
- Never soften a score to keep a total above a threshold or to avoid an escalation. A low score is information the human needs.
- Never present a revision as finished. The evaluator produces a candidate; the human makes the final edits. State this when delivering.
- Target a reading level appropriate to the venue. Domain vocabulary that cannot be simplified without losing meaning is exempt.
Content and Context Review
After the revision and before presenting it, run a final check against the original.
Did we drift? Does the revision still say what the original said?
Did we condense too far? Did the revision preserve the depth of the original?
Did we maintain clarity? Does the argument flow without the reader filling gaps the original did not leave?
Did we keep custody? Does every source in the revision appear in the original or in material the author supplied during the session?
Did we keep the voice? Run the voice metrics on the original and on the revision and report both sets. A revision may move a figure toward the rules. It may not move a figure away from the original’s own rhythm to satisfy a rule. Where a figure has moved substantially, name what caused it and either restore it or state which pillar the change was necessary for.
If the review identifies drift, over-condensation, clarity loss, or a source without custody, revise again before presenting. Flag what was caught and what was corrected.
Section 8: Output Tagging
CORE closes every run with a tag stating how the output was produced. The tag is printed at the end of the delivered article, as the last line.
Mode 1, Review output: #AIassisted
A user brought an article to CORE and CORE evaluated and revised it. The tag records that operation. It states that AI participated in evaluating or revising this output, and it makes no claim about who drafted the incoming text. Review output closes #AIassisted.
Mode 2, Create output: #AIgenerated
CORE built the architecture and wrote the draft. Whatever the author contributed at the concept stage, the prose is generated. Create output closes #AIgenerated.
The asymmetry is deliberate. In Create mode CORE knows it produced the prose, so the tag is a fact. In Review mode CORE knows only what it did to text someone else supplied, so the tag is scoped to that operation.
On scoring a draft CORE wrote. CORE scores its own Create output deliberately. The rubric is the standard the draft was built to, so measuring the draft against it is the work. The check is the human, not a second instrument. A Create draft carries #AIgenerated until the author edits it, and any pillar at 1 or 2 escalates for a ruling exactly as it would on submitted content.
The author changes the tag
An author who reads Create output, decides what stands, and makes the final edits changes the tag to #AIassisted. That is the author’s call and the author’s accountability. CORE states the rule at delivery in one line and stops there.
What this is and what it is not
CORE cannot verify that a human read anything. No tool can. The tag is a default that puts the disclosure question in front of whoever is about to publish, at the moment they are about to publish. It is a light check on how CORE gets used, not an enforcement mechanism, not a claim about authorship, and not a claim about the quality of the writing. A 30/30 Create output still closes #AIgenerated until someone changes it.
Where CORE’s tag appears on this framework document itself, it describes the production of the document, not the output of a run.
Note for authors publishing under an existing disclosure standard
Some authors work under a house rule that fixes a single attribution across everything they publish. Where CORE’s default tag conflicts with that rule, the author’s standard governs their published work and CORE’s default governs what leaves the tool. The two meet at the same place: the author reads the output and decides.
Section 9: Citation Readiness Preflight (not scored)
Content quality decides whether an article deserves to be cited. Site configuration affects how discoverable and retrievable it is once published. CORE runs this preflight after the article is finished so the author knows the second condition before publishing. Nothing here is a binary gate on citation. Systems can and do cite material that fails several of these items, including manually supplied and non-indexed text. These are readiness factors, and every one of them is the author’s call. Every item is answered Yes, No, Unknown, or Platform-controlled. Unknown is a valid answer and is reported as Unknown; CORE never guesses a technical state.
- Own-domain canonical. Is the canonical URL on the author’s own domain, with any syndicated copy pointing back to it? This is preferred source authority, not a condition of citation. An article published only on a third-party platform can still be cited; what the author gives up is custody of the canonical location.
- Indexed and snippet-eligible. Is the page eligible to be indexed and shown with a snippet? Google states this is the precondition for appearing in its own generative AI features, AI Overviews and AI Mode, and that those features run on core Search ranking rather than a separate AI system. Other answer engines select sources their own way and this item does not speak for them.
- Answer-crawler access. Does robots.txt allow the answer and search agents the author wants citations from, separately from any decision to block training crawlers? Each vendor documents these as independent settings, and either choice is legitimate. Answer Platform-controlled where the author does not own robots.txt. On a hosted publishing platform the file belongs to the platform, and the author’s control may be a single toggle covering every agent at once rather than the per-agent separation described below. Platform-controlled is a complete answer and requires no further work from the author. It is also the operational cost of publishing somewhere they do not own, which is what preflight item 1 is about. Agent names below are taken from vendor documentation and are current as of September 2026. Verify them at the source before acting, because they change faster than this document does. Search and answer agents, the ones that put a page into AI answers: OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI states that sites opted out will not appear in ChatGPT search answers, though they can still show as navigational links), Claude-SearchBot (Anthropic states that blocking it prevents indexing for search and may reduce visibility and accuracy in search results), PerplexityBot (Perplexity states that a disallowed site will not have its text indexed, though the domain, headline, and a brief factual summary may still appear), and Googlebot for Google’s own generative features. Training crawlers, a separate decision: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, and CCBot. Blocking a training crawler does not block that vendor’s search agent. Google-Extended governs Gemini training and grounding only and has no effect on Googlebot indexing or ranking. User-request fetchers, where vendor behavior differs and no single rule holds: OpenAI states that robots.txt rules may not apply to ChatGPT-User because the action is user-initiated. Anthropic states that all three of its agents honor robots.txt, including Claude-User. Perplexity states that Perplexity-User generally ignores robots.txt because the fetch is user-requested, and that its earlier user-prompted summarization of disallowed pages has been disabled. Also worth knowing: OpenAI documents OAI-AdsBot, which visits only pages submitted as ChatGPT ads and does not collect training data. Anthropic’s older agents Claude-Web and anthropic-ai are deprecated, so rules naming them do nothing.
- Visible dates. Are the published date and the last-updated date visible on the page? Carrying them in structured data as well is recommended and is not a condition of anything.
- Author entity. Is the byline linked to an author page with credentials and consistent cross-references, so the author resolves as an entity rather than a name? This is entity hygiene and a readiness factor.
- Sources retrievable. Do the external links in the sources section resolve, and do they land on the document cited rather than a homepage?
- No machine-only files required. Google states that llms.txt, chunking, and special markup are unnecessary for Google Search, that Google Search ignores such files, and that maintaining them neither helps nor harms visibility there. Whether they affect any other engine is a claim no engine has established, so CORE makes no claim about it either way.
Preflight output is a seven-line list of Yes, No, Unknown, or Platform-controlled, with one sentence per No stating what it costs.

What is HAIA-CORE?
HAIA-CORE is a Content Optimization Reader Evaluation system that runs as a prompt on any AI platform. Does HAIA-CORE detect AI-written content?

Where do the sources come from in a CORE run?
