A day without a Blog, or is it?

July 1, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

It is generally a good idea to create a schedule and follow it when blogging. In my case, I was trying to do it each weeknight. The issue with that type of saturation becomes, does your blog have value? Is your post useful?

Today was a busy day and some new information came to hand, especially surrounding a new type of Social Media, but perhaps jumping into it might not be the best bet. Reflection like other forms of evaluation is an art that is most impressive when you actually use it.

In this case I decided that today’s blog would be about taking a step back from the blog, while you can still publish something, perhaps going off beat a little will be refreshing and allow you to return to the next publication with a snap in your step and an impressive publication in your blog.

The purpose of this post.  Ttake the time to review what you’re going to write about, if it’s just for the purpose of staying on schedule or maintaining a impressive post count, you might want to rethink this before proceeding.

The Web and You: Your Career & Your Future

June 30, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

The internet and world wide web have opened doors and created an information revolution, however it’s not all good!

While companies and organizations spend massive time and resources building their market visibility through their own personal brand, it seems that the mainstream population have missed the mark.

Your existing job and future career may rely on your web presence, especially the one you do not know about. While facebook has gathered members in unbelievable numbers, the most common reason I hear for someone not joining is the scariest of all.

The top reason I hear for people not joining facebook or other social media groups is that they do not want anything about them on the web, this would be laughable if not so serious. The web is full of information and if you know someone on the web then you either are on or will soon be too, willingly or not.

Facebook, Blogs and Websites are content rich, meaning that when someone posts a picture all talks about a job, company, friend or family member it becomes a part of the web. You may not realize it but when you go in for your review and there is a picture of a protest in D.C. and you’re in the background you better be ready to explain it, of course that’s if your lucky.

That picture may have been a complete misconception. You happen to be walking by to visit the nation’s capital and the local newspaper shot off a quick snap and guess what,  you’re in it.  I hope you know what the content underneath says about that protest that you are now presented in.

A company, organization or future spouse may never tell you, but they are looking.  Social Media is one of the biggest players in making or braking jobs and higher managers decisions.  They can be negative, but they can also be positive.

The lesson here is to get out there and do something, because if you’re not managing your image online then your letting someone else do it for you.

Create your own business

June 29, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

When you create your own business or start selling something on your own, you create a career. Job security for a business owner is the same as anywhere else, performance is key. If you think about it,  many people lost jobs because they took roles in companies where they relied on their stability from someone else. Create your own career, find out what your best at and run with it.  The stability of your business and career can be in your own hands.

A quick thought on careers:

Raising children, charitable work, religious followings, athletic pursuit are all underrated careers that develop skills and talents that are extremely valuable to the rest of the world.

In this day in age, the use of Social Media and the internet has made the professional barrier a lot smaller and manageable. You can wait for the market to come to you or you can go out and grab the market.  Truth is,  your likely to end up with a better opportunity either way by doing something instead of nothing.

Review – Social Media Camp, Long Island June 25, 2010

Review – Social Media Camp, Long Island June 25, 2010

This free event was a fascinating collaboration of business, educational and technology providers across Long Island. I had the Chance to sit in three sessions all of which were very informative.

Social Media Now, by Kathy

Social Media is developing its role as a relationship builder in a community that can and will become clients and customers. The role of social media is to introduce you, not your products.   Through this process, people become familiar with the person behind the product or business and convert social media into positive ROI.

Podcasting 101, by Aaron

This wonderful media tool allows people to interact and capture the attention of followers through audio and video events (recordings). Audio Podcasts are still the top provider of media for outreach and education in technology.  This method makes for great networking and exposure. This is a great tool to establish a loyal core following of supports and establish you as an authority in your area of expertise.

Facebook, by Bruce

Facebook “Business Pages” or the Like Pages (aka Fan Pages) have customizations to them that few people take advantage of. With control over the landing page when a visitor visits or “Likes” your Business Page, the ability to customize those pages using PBML gives a unique and presentable feel to the business or product.

The event was very informative and diverse. This was a great opportunity to learn, network and have fun.  I highly recommend it to everyone in the future.

Social Brand Visibility, Social Brand Reputation Management

June 25, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

Social websites have become a viral tool to get noticed, and not always in a positive light.  Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn have provided tools to let novice technology professionals reach each other and the market like never before.

While the big three above are what most people reference when talking about visibility in social media, the cast of players and influential who’s who of social media is endless. Anyone who has a blog, a comments page, forums, any technology that allows multiple users to interact is running some form of social media.

Social Brand Visibility is  getting your name, brand or product into the public network that is social media. Like any other marketing tool or campaign, this requires a well thought out approach to who you’re going to target, how you’re going to target them and what consistent brand image you’re going to create to convert to sales or referrals later.

While many tools exist to run a Social Brand Visibility campaign, it is important to realize that the SBV Campaign is just one side of the coin.

In the near future I will talk about the bigger picture with Social Brand Reputation Management.

The truth about business ownership and entrepreneur opportunities

June 24, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

Actual business ownership and entrepreneur opportunities have never been easier, nor will they likely be ever again. The worst thing I have ever heard in the last decade as a Consulting Coach is I need to wait, or choosing to wait, it’s the deathtrap no one ever gets out of. There are lots of ways to build a business and a brand in very short order. Puglisi Consulting Group has been doing this for business owners and even divisions of major corporations for a while now.  Like anything else, until you educate yourself it always seems like to much or impossible.  If you really want to be your own boss the only way you will get there is by starting today.

Website – $500 to $2000

Prime Office Space – $199 month – $5000 a month

Marketing Materials (Highest Quality) $55 – $200 to start

Social Brand Marketing – well you get the picture

A basic business can get started  for around $750 with only about $200 recurring monthly. Granted, you have to put in the time to make it up in other areas, and you’ll need to be able to actually do or sell something, oh and get at least a county clerk business cert ($27-$45 onetime fee).

Point is everyday big business dries up the talent of small business owners and our population becomes stuck in the misconceived notion that they have to work for someone else.

Obviously, I could go on and there are other details to consider, but if you got a talent, time and a week’s pay in your pocket, you got all you need to receive both your own finances and the economy.

Top Reasons to Blog, by Basil C. Puglisi

June 22, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

1)You already do it every day….

When you learn about something, develop an opinion, share information, you are already blogging, you just haven’t taken the time to write it down or share it, why?

            2) Stress Release

They say when something bothers you can count to ten or write down what’s bothering you. *note in this case, choosing not to publish may be a good idea, but that’s up to you.

            3) Education is a global responsibility

The internet is full of so-called experts, if people who really know about a topic do not get on and share it, then others will be mislead by others. Wiki is a great example of this.

            4) Visibility

The blog is a way to get your name and skills out there. Looking for that next great career move? Want to run for public office? The blog is a  simple way to share what you know and how you are qualified.

            5) Optimization

Have a website? Blogs are the perfect tool to share information, display your website and drive traffic to your business, campaign or whatever.

T-Mobiles myTouch Slide review

June 8, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

T-Mobile seems to have turned its myTouch line into its very own franchise. Or at least it is now thanks to the new addition of a second model as well as a solid line of accessories. Still, we all know that it isn’t all about the hardware.

Actually, it seems that the myTouch 3G Slide has built its own custom skin on top of HTC’s Sense for the Android 2.1. The phone actually seems to represent the coveted deep carrier customized experience that most are searching for in a mobile device. Although the original product was a bit larger than some may have desired, the new release seems to have this covered in a slimmer model that offers a bit better packaging.

It also looks a lot better in person than it does on videos or web photos. This is a huge relief since most of the pre-promos showed a body that was a bit on the ugly side and looked bulky and inconvenient to some users already using the more advanced and more expensive technologies.

Although the Slide does provide some new features and up-to-date aesthetic looks, it also continues to share some of the design features common to its namesake. It seemed redundant to have to return to the HVGA display to run the test review on the Slide, but it was also odd that the WVGA wasn’t as missed as much as previously foreseen. Speculation is that it may be due to the plentiful screen. Not only this, but the screen itself has that ‘glass-front’ feel instead of the shaky plastic that can scare us at the thought of an accidental drop. The air of high quality is much appreciated.

Oddly, there seems to be a bit of resistance and anything but a smooth flow between the devices open and closed aspects. Rubbing noises when closing or opening the display seem to be rather common.

Adwords and PPC Advertising to Market Your Business

May 26, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

Pay-per-click and Adwords advertising may be two of the fastest ways to drive visitors to your website. Although there may be a bevy of free methods available, that may also indeed work in their own time, nothing comes close to PPC and Adwords in terms of efficiency and speed.

There have been great successes and great failures with PPC as well. With well defined learning curves some users seem to launch themselves in a bit too early, with a bit less education than is required, which can be one sure way to fail, and quickly. However, once you know the basics you should be able to lay a firm foundation with your PPC and Adwords campaigns.

Targeted Global Marketing

Why would any business owner limit their marketing areas locally if they have such quick and handy tools available that can literally get the word out worldwide. Targeting a global marketplace with these methods will give you the opportunity in advertising to customize your ads for over two hundred countries in their appropriate languages.

PPC Launching Tips

Start cautiously and slowly. Learn to track your outcomes while maintaining adjustments until you learn which item, product or even technique is generating the outcome you desire.

Although you should start out slow once you get a feel for what targeted ads generate the most income, you should then begin to aim for the sky and take the risks necessary to gain substantial benefit from future successes.

Adwords

When planning your Adwords campaign be certain to utilize the keyword tool to find the best chances at keywords with the highest probable hit rates. Although Google’s keyword tool will be sufficient to begin, once you begin to rake in some money, you may want to switch over to a more detailed keyword research tool such as Site Build It.

With a bit of study, drive and maintenance even the least savvy marketing business owner can make great leaps in the ad revenues they can generate with a few simple products advertised in all of the right places.

Banner Display Networks

May 18, 2010 by basilpuglisi@aol.com Leave a Comment

Banner display networks can offer business owners the ability to target customers, vertical markets and other advertising aspects on the pages they are already browsing. This kind of ad serving technology can provide instant global visibility.

How Do Banner Display Networks Work?

Users create or have created for them professional banner ads that are displayed on many thousands of websites across the internet on the users behalf. Banner display networks target niche ‘viewers’, which means those who are already viewing your competitors products and services, may very well see your own banner displaying your products and services as well. This is called an ad impression.

Another important aspect about banner display networks is that the more your ads are displayed to prospective buyers, the more familiar your company, or brand, begins to be to possible buyers. This can be known as building your brand’s awareness. Marketers understand that often you will need to put your product or service in the customers view, and hopefully their minds, four to seven times before they may decide to make a purchase from you.

Where Will My Ads Be Displayed?

Commonly, a user will choose from their targeted categories of sites that you would like to display your banner ads on. Good banner display networks will also offer the option to geo-target some of your audience. If your business is offline as well as online, this can be a vital form of advertisement when users try to search engine browse for products and services in your particular area.

Banner Options

Dependant on the quality of the service you use, you may be able to gain the services of a professional graphics designer who will communicate with you about what you would like your banner to display. There is also likely to be a large choice of templates to be used as the base option for your banner. These options will include the type of banner ad such as top-bar or side-bar options.

Banner display networks do have their price, however, most are able to boast a level of efficiency in helping their users to achieve higher viewed status on their websites.
